ROAD TEST...

So it is exactly thirty minutes till my road test ....
Yes yes yes I know what you're 25+1 and you don't have your license yet!!! WHAT!!!
But yes it's true
Soooo....Here's the moment of truth ...

Wish me luck. I let you all know how it goes.

Your modern day mermaid ,
Faith. M

So over it ....

I'm so over the snow. I just want to let it go....Lmao. Cue frozen reference ....
Every ones writing who ever pissed off elza to go apologize ....

The cold and the snow please please go away like now!!!
Two weeks ago was the stomach virus and now I have a cold and my allergies are kicking my butt.
Ugh how I hate being sick. Never realized how much I miss not having to wipe or blow my nose.
Ugh walking around like Rudolph the red nose reindeer. Ugh.

How are you all holding up with the snow?

Much love,
Your modern day mermaid,
Faith

So the fashion show....

So yesterday night was my first two shows.
I don't know if you ever been to Lincoln center but it alone is stunning.
I arrive and there's a few doors to chose from lol.
When I finally get to my door and walk in scan my ticket for the first show.
Total bonus is there are a lot of cool freebies :) Wish I had time to stop at them but I didn't want to be late.
So I find our photographer. And get on the STANDING LINE. The standing line is first come first serve so you're better off arriving extremely early to get on that line.
Even though most of the time is spent waiting. Standing for the show to start.
If your short like me, my advice is to get there really early to be first on that line so you can actually see the show.

The 2nd show was a little more interesting, and I got to sit down
The shows are a lot shorter then I thought they would be. Only about 15-20 min on the long hand. Never realized how much music plays apart of the show Until yesterday.  It's kind of like when you watch a movie, who ever created the score is a genius. Pure genius. Because you get a scene and have to know when to place music, not just any music but the right music to make the scene and moment come alive. To be able to captivate the audience.  Well for the runway show it's the same thing, the music is well just as significant. It really gives you the feel or sets the tone for the event.

I had a young girl with I think Irish accent , ask me how long is the show, she was kind of over waiting. But she said this was her first show and I told her it is an experience like no other and most people never get to experience it. So I told her she can officially cross it off her bucket list.
She asked me a question I never thought of, why do the models looks so dead in the face, why do they lack emotion, or all have such a straight face. She said wouldn't it sell the clothes more if the models smiled.
The only logical reason I could think of is well, models are beautiful as it is, if they were smiling at me Id focus more on the pretty lady smiling at me then on the clothes.
Maybe they don't want to distract you with them smiling.
That was the best answer I could Come up with but I shall do some reading to see if I can find the real answer.
Over all it is an experience I am grateful to  have been able to experience. If I ever go again....I will definitely be wearing flats.

One hour to go.....

So an hour to go before my first fashion show….

The night before I decided on a striped black and white dress Mr. BB had bought me when we purchased the first grey one.

Any ways decided I was going to put on a full face.

What I mean by put on a full face is well, make up.

Yes I am 25+1 and never put on a full face of make up. I never really played with the stuff growing up. Until I read a bunch of articles, and watch a bunch of you tube videos and realized all the things wrong with my skin lmao.  I had assumed because I had got my acne under control that well there wasn’t much make up could do for my face but I was wrong….

Lol yes I said I was wrong… Make up well its crazy the things make up can do with your face… don’t believe me, google or youtube some contouring videos and you will be amazed. It’s like magic literally…

So this morning I put on a simple face, threw on my dress and made my way to the train to get to the office but not before slipping on ice, in my uggs.

Arrived at the office safely, did my work. And now and hour before the show I am nervous as hell….

My first fashion show, that’s something I could honestly say I never thought I would experience in this lifetime. But stepping out my comfort zone hasn’t been so horrid. I mean I did survive a club in NYC with my first pair of heals.

This modern day mermaid is going to try out these heels again, so here’s to round two

I let you know how it goes tonight….

Wish this fish out of water,

Good luck.

Faith

The first shopping experience I actually enjoyed...

Most girls love clothes and would jump on any opportunity given to go shopping for work. But I well I never really
Enjoyed shopping it wasn't fun or easy.
It was annoying , frustrating and sometimes could mess up my whole mood for the day.
Usually after a store or two Im usually bummed and aggravated. I'm usually convinced that what ever I went Into the store to get I won't find.

And then all of a sudden something happened that I didn't honestly think ever would occur....
I enjoyed a shopping experience.
Three weeks ago, My new friend let's call him Mr BB, and I we're seeking some much need work cloths for Dare I SAY IT. FASHION WEEK

At first...
The experience started like the usual other uneventful shopping experiences I have had,
Walking in and then walking out....
Though these stores we walked into I didn't really shop at much or ever.
At first I felt like I was being looked at like Vivian, from pretty woman. I wasn't wearing a hooker outfit but Im no sample size and though I know Im Not a whale my negative perspective was making me feel like the cow in the room.
They weren't staring at me with peering eyes, which is usually why I don't walk into these stores cause I always assume because I'm not a small that I'd be judge or something.
But in a split second I remembered something I was reading about how most woman aren't sample size. And it was about time to shift my perspective.
So with a open mind I agree to try on anything literally ....
But I didn't know what to chose. Not many examples of my special proportions lmao.
And Just as I was about to get frustrated and say forget it,
MR. BB , picked out a bunch of stuff to try on.

We argued about me trying on a medium well because I haven't been a medium ever.

As a kid I was a small.

Then hit puberty and got my disorder and well been a xlarge/large ever since. So
medium me. not gonna happen.

so I tried on the large and it fit and then tried on the medium expecting to be able to say ha told you but instead I tried on a medium and....drum roll...
It fit

And it fit well. :)
Sometimes stepping out of your comfort zone is doing something that you usually hate doing but try doing again with an open mind and postive perspective.

So here's to stepping out your comfort zone....

Your Modern day Mermaid,

Faith

Random thought......

So I can't pretend that growing up I obsessed over fashion even the slightest bit.
But I can be perfectly honest with you when I have said I have developed a new found appreciation and interest in the whole process.
How it all comes together like pieces to the puzzle.
You don't know if it's going to come together in time and if everything will play out exactly how you plan it.
But some how like strokes on a canvas to complete a painting , it all comes together.
The crew,
music,
lights,
Models,
the looks
all Fall into place. .
To form this movement, this moment.
a masterpiece.
This masterpiece
orchestrated
in this symphony of art
that is
a fashion show.

5 things I've learned so far while working at my new job....

1.) When you have no clue what to wear. ( Which is me like every day...)
Put on all black
You can never have enough black literally.
Which makes me giggle because well till this day I love Wednesday.

2.) Give your self 10 extra minutes to do anything and everything. . .
Life is Unexpected and between late trains and appoinments falling thru and popping up well an extra 10 minutes can go a long way.

3) No ones is as mean as Miranda in the devil wear Prada . But there will be people who talk to you like you're a complete moron. But if your trying to make friends with every single person you meet, well wrong buisness.
*On the flip side you will stubble upon some amazing gems that will help you forget the mean girls ever made you question that new hair cut.*

4) It's harder then you think. Not impossible but definitely not for everyone. You gotta have thick skin and be able to handle and function in chaos

5) But so far I have learned there is much room to grow. And that's what I'm most excited about.

My first time out at Tao , New York City.

My outfit was chosen for me the night before, so attire was not a brain cramp for me.
My Fairy God brother who has amazing fashion sense was able to bibbidi bobbidi booped me into looking presentable. The only thing that really wracked my brain were these stupid shoes
My first pair of heelsyes I said first again.
I did my best to walk more like someone my age, who knows their way around every wedge, heel, and bootie known to man, and less like a toddler who tries on her moms shoes for dress up.

We arrive at the door where there are red velvet ropes and three to four white bouncers who all speak with a Russian accent.
He tells us we have to have let's call him "Ken" to come to the door.
After waiting about 5 minutes and listening to the bouncer tell a group of 3 girls that the reason why there not letting just anyone in is because there were girls who got blasted and ran from the cops etc. after batting there eyelashes and promising not to drink he let them in.
By then the rest of our party arrived and Ken comes upstairs to let the nice men know that we're with him.
And like magic the ropes are removed and were in.
Score one for plain Jane over here.

I finally put my glasses back on, and of course the last thing I want to experience, long wooden wide stairs. They reminded me of any teenage come of age comedy where the nerd walks down the stairs and slowly you realize she's beautiful and everything you wanted.
But walking down those stairs wasn't as fabulous for me.
After finally making my way down these steps I’m greeted by amazing décor, but I’m sure that’s not what you want to hear about so lets get to the good stuff. So what’s it like inside?

Kind of  like high school.

Sorry to disappoint you all, but that’s what it reminded me of

No one really dances until the liquor kicks in so for the first hour or so , you kind of hug the wall.. or in this sense your table or reserved area...
When the party finally does get started you can find...

You’ll find a “hype man” or one random dude by the DJ booth next to the DJ that is there the whole night, maybe for moral support.
A group of femme fatales who are usually just their to dance with each other, usually in pairs of four to five, weather or not you break the magic circle is purely up to them and them alone.
A group of either sex which I call grinders, grinding up against each other not really caring about the tempo or rhythm.
A usual jock or shall we say gentlemen surrounded by groupies or a group of fabulous females who jump around and get down literally.
Mr. popularity that has a great looking girl on each arm because you have two arms so why not two beautiful girls. But don’t be fooled, Mr. Popularity and his trophy girls are only usually their for about an hour or so before gathering up their very expensive fur coats and leaving.
And last but not least you have your bottle girls, which would be like cheerleaders but better... Beautiful and edgy in their black little lingerie that honestly looks like dress slips (hey if I were fit enough to rock it I wouldaccessorized with black thigh highs and tattooed sleeves.

It was a bit to me like an updated version of going to a club when you’re in high school except better attire, you’re actually aloud and encouraged to drink (open bar and bottle service), and if you wait long enough they actually might play some of the songs you jammed out to back then. “Engine engine number 9 anyone?”

Over all, pretty awesome night and I lasted a whole two hours dancing in those heals and this new girl didn’t face plant into the floor, get obnoxiously drunk, or lose a cell phone.

I'll be sure to bewilder you when ever my next step out of my comfort zone aka my existence here on planet normal takes place.

Reporting from the other side of the train tracks,
Faith
